ADSUMUDI

OBJECTIVE OF ADSUMUDI: To solve the equations on cards in play, earn five and be declared the winner.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 to 8 Players
COMPONENTS: 52 two-sided hexagonal-shaped cards and a rule sheet.
TYPE OF GAME: Educational Card Game
AUDIENCE: Ages 9 and Up
OVERVIEW OF ADSUMUDI
Correctly manipulate the five numbers given on the cards to arrive at the center number using the four basic arithmetic symbols and quickly collect cards to win.
SETUP
Place all the cards in a stack in the middle of the play area.
All players choose their level of play. There are four levels of play – easy, medium, hard and monstrously hard. Each level has a required number of the five given numbers that must be utilized in solving the equation.
GAMEPLAY
All players focus on the card on top of the deck and attempt to use their numbers and symbols of choice to generate equations that will arrive at the number in the middle as an answer.
Working on the card shown above,
Easy would simply be 13-2 =11 or 7+4 =11, using just two of the numbers
Medium would be 13+9 ÷ 2 =11, using three of the given numbers
Hard would be (7×9) – (13×4) = 11, using four of the given numbers
Monstrously hard would be (4×2) + (9+7) -13 =11, using all five of the given numbers.
Note: a number can only be used once per equation.
Immediately a player is able to work out or find an equation based on their choice of difficulty, they shout out the word ‘ADSUMUDI’ and all the other players have to pause to give that player the opportunity to prove their math.
If the math/equation is correct, that player takes the card in play from the top of the deck and keeps it as their own.
Game continues with the next card on the deck.
If the equation is wrong or doesn’t check out, the game continues until somebody else solves their math on their chosen difficulty level.
Note: there is no penalty for wrong answers

Alternative ways to play
Rather than have people play on different levels of difficulty in the same round, the cards can be divided into levels of difficulty based on the white stars at the top of each card.
One star – easy
Two stars – medium
Three stars – hard
Here, all players in the same category of difficulty work at par to see who would be the first to come up with a correct equation for each card using only two numbers at first and then gradually increasing till all five numbers are used.
Another way to play may be to introduce a timer, paper and pencil. Once the timer is flipped, all payers race to write down as many equations as they can find. Points here are scored per number used in a correct equation. For example if the target answer is 12 and the player writes 6×2 or 20+4÷2, the player will earn two points for the first question and three points for the second equation.
At the end of the predetermined rounds, the player with the highest points wins.
On a different note, players can also work cooperatively instead of competing against each other which is a good way to teach or encourage teamwork.
SCORING
Every card won earns the player a point. They simply keep the cards to signify the points.
END OF GAME
The game ends if a player solves the equation on five cards and earns them.
Players may decide to increase or reduce the target number of cards to win the game to suit their taste.
