OVERVIEW OF THE MINISTER’S CAT

The Minister’s Cat is a parlor game originated in the Victorian era! As with many other word games, this game involves memory and requires an extensive vocabulary. To play this game, the players should know enough adjectives that start with each letter of the alphabet. The Minister’s Cat is a lot harder to play than it seems!

GAMEPLAY

The players sit in a circle or near each other to start. The first player must think of an adjective that starts with the letter A. Once they think of something, they must say, “The minister’s cat is an (adjective here) cat.” So, for example, the player may think of the word “amazing” or “adorable”. In this case, the player would say, “The minister’s cat is an adorable cat.”

Then, the second player continues by adding another adjective; this time, making sure the adjective starts, not with the same letter, but with an adjective beginning with the letter B. As an example game, the player might say, “The minster’s cat is an amazing, bashful cat.” The next player continues the game by adding an adjective that describes the Minister’s cat beginning with the letter C. For example, a player Play continues with players adding adjectives in alphabetical order.

A player is considered “out” if one of these two scenarios occurs:

14. The player is unable to remember the previous adjectives in order.
15. The player falls behind while they try to think of an adjective that starts with the next letter of the alphabet. If you manage to play all the way down to the letter Z and there are still at least two players remaining, play continues with the letter A!

END OF GAME

The last player remaining wins the game! This spirited game is fun, family-friendly, and great for any trips or just when you need a fun game to pass the time.
